Hello friends! As many of you probably already know, I'm going to be spending the next few years in Rwanda, teaching English with the Peace Corps. I'll try to keep my blog updated, but I haven't been promised indoor plumbing, let alone reliable electricity or internet..
I'm flying out on October 20th, so right now my life is a flurry of packing, unpacking, repacking, depacking, and developing various psychological complexes about putting articles of clothing into suitcases.  Fortunately the weather in Rwanda seems very forgiving, as it hovers between 60-80 degrees all year round! Try not to hate me too much as you prepare for the cold Washington winter...
So what am I actually going to be doing in Rwanda? I'm going to be teaching English in a secondary school; in 2008, Rwanda officially changed over from being a francophone to an anglophone country, and most of the schools were  not given adequate time or training to prepare for this change. The Peace Corps only recently went back into Rwanda after pulling out volunteers during the genocide in the nineties, so the program there is still very much in a developmental phase. It's going to be a challenge, and I'm both very excited and very nervous about the next two years.  Life is about to change dramatically for me, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be an adventure like none other!
